There is no net zero without nature, yet concerns about integrity in the VCM make companies hesitant to invest in nature-based solutions (NbS). This session will review the interconnections between climate, nature, and people with NbS, both for individual corporate climate strategies as well as global contributions to net zero and sustainable development.

Natura will share examples of working on issues of nature loss and community resilience with IPLCs in the Amazon, and the LEAF Coalition will discuss how innovative financing models can drive needed financing to stem nature loss while also delivering on corporate net zero and nature positive commitments.

The session will showcase corporate success stories, illustrating what motivates businesses to engage in the VCM, exploring both economic and environmental incentives.

Jurisdictional REDD+ Perspectives: Progress on scaling finance and support for forest conservation

Emergent CEO, Eron Bloomgarden, will join Roselyn Fosuah Adjei, Director, Climate Change Directorate at the Forestry Commission of Ghana, in conversation to discuss their shared experiences in working towards the signing of an agreement to supply high-integrity jurisdictional REDD+ credits to the LEAF Coalition. 

The discussion will be part of a wider panel, convened by Environmental Defense Fund, bringing together the NGO community and country representatives to highlight progress with several jurisdictional scale REDD+ initiatives, showcase lessons learned and perspectives on the path forward.

Scaling Finance for Forest Carbon: Why does it matter; how do we make it happen?

Matthias Berninger, Senior Vice President Public Affairs, Science & Sustainability, Bayer, will represent LEAF Coalition buyers at a panel event at the UK Pavilion focused on the challenges in scaling up finance for forest carbon. The event will showcase what is being done by the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership, the LEAF Coalition and others to increase the volume of the finance available for forest credits, and so maximize environmental social and economic outcomes.
